Maribor ATTAC pilot launched: Implementation of real-time passenger information system in Maribor

In the frame of the ATTAC project, the Maribor team has implemented/rented a real-time passenger information (RTPI) system.
One two-side LCD display has been installed at one of the busiest bus stop called ‘City Center’ in Maribor. Real-time information of bus arrivals for four city bus lines are displayed permanently on the seven-line screen. In the remaining three lines timetable information for other city bus lines is exchanging with weather prognosis and date/time. Information about the announcement of the RTPI system is displayed at nighttime when buses do not operate.

Real-time arrival prediction is based on the current position of the buses, determined by GPS and map matching technology and historical data of bus runs. Sixteen buses have been equipped with tracking devices that are sending information on their current position to the server and SW for data transmission. The calculation method for the prediction of bus arrivals at the bus stop has also been developed.
