Thessaloniki Public Transport Authority hosts 4th Transnational Working Group and 2nd Steering Committee meetings of ATTAC project

The 4th ATTAC Transnational Working Group (TWG) Meeting and the 2nd Steering Committee Meeting were held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 26th and 27th November 2012, hosted by project partner Thessaloniki Public Transport Authority (ThePTA). 23 representatives from 8 partners participated in the two-day events.

The Chairman of ThePTA Prof. Panos Papaioannou opened the 4th TWG meeting on 26 November by emphasising the important contribution of the ATTAC project in the planning procedures for Public Transport for the partner cities and particularly for the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Area. He presented the role of ThePTA in the Public Transport Planning and in developing the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) within the ATTAC mobility Toolbox, the first such mobility plan in Greece made possible thanks to ATTAC project and the South East Europe (SEE) programme.

The main topics that presented during the TWG meeting were the results of the European Mobility Week (EMW) Campaigns 2012, the progress of the Pilots and the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) within ATTAC project.

Regarding the EMW 2012 events, CEI presented a Summary of partners’ Campaigns. Each city implemented a Campaign during the European Mobility Week, organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme. During this important event, several activities supported by the ATTAC project were carried out by the partners involved. The activities of ATTAC partners during EMW 2012 are reported in the special issue of the Newsletter (special issue).

The progress of the Pilots under the 3 Task Forces were presented. Partners presented their work in the field of Flexible PT solutions, Integrated ticketing/Smart card systems and Intelligent passenger information. Partners of Task Force 2 shared their experience with the other partners gained during the MobiLAB meeting held in Ancona, Marche Region, on 18-19 October 2012.

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) of each partner were presented by each city. Most of the cities are on schedule. ThePTA presented the current status of the SUMP including proposed 12 measures (under Activity 6.1). After the end of the TWG Meeting ThePTA organised a Mobility Forum (No 3) for local stakeholders, in which one of the measures proposed in the SUMP about a new Tram System in Thessaloniki area was presented in more detail. Partners from the ATTAC project were (partly) present in this MF Meeting giving the chance of local authorities to exchange experiences on the topics of planning, financing, developing and upgrading of such LRT systems.

On the next day, the 2nd Steering Committee (SC) Meeting took place chaired by the President of ThePTA Prof. Panagiotis Papaioannou. In the SC meeting matters relating to project management and coordination, financial management and reporting were discussed. The outstanding tasks and next activities of the project were presented by the Project coordinator. The meeting concluded with the renewed commitment of the partners to complete the project on time, recovering any inevitable delays and delivering the project outputs and results as planned.
