Launching Conference and first project meeting in Lillafüred, Hungary

The international event was held on the 19th of October 2011 in the renowned Hotel Palota situated in Lillafüred, a settlement 10 kilometres from Miskolc, Hungary. Number of participants has reached its 150 participant capacity.

The conference was attended by high-level officials from the Hungarian Ministry of Development, the European Commission and from the South East Europe Joint Technical Secretariat. The event represented an important opportunity to showcase the project’s objectives to a wider public.

Besides formally presenting the project’s scope of work to strategic stakeholders, the aim of the conference was to compile information about current situation in sustainable public transport development, European policy and trends as well as state-of-the-art public transportation solutions initiated in European cities and beyond.

During the international event, the importance of promoting sustainable transport in the South East Europe Area by exchanging experience and capitalising on best practices was highlighted. In particular, participants pointed out that effective and quality urban public transport was one of the key elements for fighting congestion and that the use of public transport ought to be promoted.

The conference was followed by the 1st Transnational Working Group and Steering Committee meetings, where the implementation, timetables and guidelines for forthcoming project tasks were discussed among Project Partners.
